The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind for gun violence prevention in our country.
Today: The U.S. House passed the Safer Communities Act which was passed by the Senate yesterday. That means gun legislation will be on the president’s desk for signature for the first time in 30 years. We wish the bill did more to close loopholes in our federal gun laws, but are proud of the years of work by supporters and advocates to get this monumental bill passed.
Yesterday: The Supreme Court STRUCK DOWN the New York gun law that required people to show “proper cause” to get a license to carry a concealed handgun outside the home. The vote was 6-3. While this is a devastating loss for New York, we believe Massachusetts‘ gun laws remain intact.
