Today, news of another mass shooting broke. According to the Gun Violence Archive, this is the 231st mass shooting of four or more victims in just the first 150 days of this year. The details of this horrific incident are continuing to emerge, but initial reports indicate that the gunman was able to kill eight of his coworkers in just a few minutes before law enforcement were able to respond. This is the 24th workplace shooting in 2021, and the second with more than ten victims killed or injured.
“While the details of this horrific massacre continue to emerge, we stand with victims of this attack and the San Jose community” said John Rosenthal, founder and chairman of Stop Handgun Violence. “Just this morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard from President Joe Biden’s ATF director nominee David Chipman, who I’ve worked closely with for several years, about the importance of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives in helping prevent gun violence in America. As ATF agents arrive on the scene in San Jose to help local law enforcement with this investigation, we urge the Senate to move quickly to confirm David Chipman, and to pass laws that would make it more difficult for dangerous individuals to gain access to firearms without detection by law enforcement.”
